100 meter race

Here I am at Fresno City College Ratcliffe Stadium watching our students compete with other Conference students in the CCC Track and field tournament.  They are running fast, jumping high, and throwing long.  It is a pleasure to see the athleticism of young people.  At the end of the day, they were hot and tired and some of us were wet after getting water dumped on us.  The event terminated with an award ceremony.  FAA came in third.  I was proud of our students who went out there and gutted it out.  I bet there will be some tired and sore students tomorrow.

I may be wrong, but I believe that the Apostle Paul was an athlete.  If not, then he enjoyed being a spectator at athletic events.  When Paul wrote his second letter to his mentee, Timothy, he used athletic terms to describe his life.  “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.  Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day–and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”  This race of faith is one race I don’t want to ditch or quit.  How about you?
