ATTENDANCE

Regular and prompt attendance is essential to success in school. It is required that students be in their assigned classes each period of the school day. California school laws place the responsibility on the parent or legal guardian to ensure that children are in school.

Parents need to plan their arrival at school between 7:30-7:50 to ensure their child has time to be ready for the start of school at 8 a.m. Students not in class, ready for school by 8 a.m. will be considered tardy.

Supervision

Student supervision begins and ends within thirty minutes of the school day. Morning supervision starts at 7:30 a.m. in the gym. Students should not be on campus before 7:30 a.m. or after 4:00 p.m. UNLESS they are in a supervised school activity or supervised by their own parent in the immediate area. Students in grades K-8 are REQUIRED to be in After School Care and will only be released to authorized persons. Students in grades 9-12 are required to be in designated classrooms until picked up or 6:00 p.m. Late fees will apply to 9-12 students as well. Campus closes at 6:00 p.m. in which no students should be on campus.

Public bus riders or bicyclists are expected to leave school within 15 minutes of school dismissal. Students remaining 10 minutes beyond dismissal will be checked into the After School Care Program. No student should remain on school property without permission from administration. Students picked up will only be released to authorized persons. Those authorized should pick students up promptly at completion of after-school activities and students should remain with that authorized person until leaving campus.

Absences and Tardies

Students who miss school, due to sickness or for an unexcused absence, are not allowed to participate in any after school activity that day. A signed, printed or emailed note (NOT A PHONE CALL) of excuse must be turned in at the office when the student returns to school.

Absences are excusable under the following:

  • Appointment with an FAA administrator
  • Death in the immediate familyIllness (If a student is sick more than three consecutive days, s/he must have a written doctor’s note for absences to be excused)
  • Medical, dental or court appointment for the student requires a note from the doctor’s office/court office.

Prearranged Absences

Pre-arranged absences may sometimes be necessary. Such occasions are expected to be minimal. These are excused absences and students will not be penalized academically or financially. When absences are pre-arranged, all plans for making up school work must be made with the student’s instructor(s) prior to the absence. Students will be allowed to make up schoolwork according to the individual classroom policy. Requests for pre-arranged absences must be submitted to the teacher(s) on a Pre-Arranged Absence Form. Pre-arranged forms that are not approved will result in non-excused absences. A request for an absence must be submitted at least 24 hours in advance. Completed forms can be scanned and emailed to the attendance officer.

Truancy

Truancy is an absence that occurs when parents and faculty are not aware of the student’s whereabouts. Truancy will carry the additional consequences of unexcused absences for classes missed and a one-day suspension.
