Clovis, Calif., –July 8, 2017, a ten year-old student from Fresno Adventist Academy (FAA) has died. Travon Davis, son of Fresno Westside Seventh-day Adventist Church member Shetia Davis, was pronounced dead Friday, July 7 after a drowning accident, which occurred during a Fresno Westside Church social July 4.

A prayer vigil was held prior, on July 5, and group counseling was provided to Fresno Westside Church members by several counselors including Dr. Pierre Steenberg, Central California Conference (Central) ministerial director and board-certified Christian counselor. Continuing pastoral care will be provided to the congregation and school communities in the days and weeks ahead.

Davis, who would have been a sixth-grade student this coming school year, is described as a popular boy who loved playing basketball. Chandra Young, newly incoming FAA principal says, “I never knew Travon and his family personally, but I know he was well-loved by our staff and student body, and my heart is broken for his family. Please join me in praying and supporting the family through this grieving time.”

Central’s president Ramiro Cano adds, "Our hearts cling with the hearts of those that are hurting with the untimely passing of young Travon. It is our hope and prayer that God’s warm embrace will bring the comfort and peace that only our Lord can bestow during this difficult time."

Central’s administration asks members to be mindful in uplifting the family, the Fresno Westside Church, and the FAA students and staff in prayer, as they navigate this challenging time. An additional release will be forthcoming.
