Spiritual Life: a Student's View Spiritual life. It’s a hard thing to describe, even for a student who is living it. Spiritual life at Fresno Adventist Academy is even harder, because everything in a Christian school is always complicated. And yet, at the same time, it is so wonderfully and beautifully uncomplicated!
The dictionary definition of spiritual is as follows: sacred, religious and of or about the spirit or spirits. And anyone who’s seen us at FAA knows that at first glance, only a limited few of us seem anywhere near spiritual or religious. Often times we come across as only being here because our parents said we had to be. But it only takes a minute to take a second glance, and see the effect that the programs and teachers have on us. The chapels and programs they present are all different, and appeal to different people, many times quenching the thirst that we all have (but are sometimes afraid to admit having).
I’m really glad that I have the opportunity denied so many others; Christian Education is something to be cherished, and the spiritual lives that come forth are proof of it. My spiritual life has been helped by being here since first grade. The positive ambiance is almost thrilling, and it’s really nice to know that you’re being taught by people that believe just as you do.
Something I love about FAA and its spiritual benefits is that everyone seems to be always happy! Even when we are having arguments and discussions about truly trivial things like behavior or dress code, there is always an undercurrent of a family atmosphere. Even when the faculty gets angry with us, there is always a bond between student and teacher. That bond is Jesus.
I can’t imagine being anywhere else. I love FAA and its family. Even when they don’t do what is expected of them, the teachers, staff and students are all connected in a way public school people never can be. Everyone here tries their best, and even when we fail, we have our school and church family to support us. Even when we don’t do our work, or don’t obey the teachers, everyone is willing to help us learn to control ourselves, and to teach us more about life and God.
Of course, we mustn’t forget that FAA isn’t perfect. Nothing in life is ever perfect. I know everyone attending or teaching here can easily think of things (spiritual or not) that need to be remedied. Everything and everyone has something that isn’t so cool about them. But everything comes in good time.
To some, the Academy has fallen short of its mark. But I disagree. Where we are, God is also. He is here, ready to pick us up when we fall. He is prepared to give us anything we need; and because of that, the true spirit of FAA will never change.
